Iggy has been on his high-horse recently, oxygen masks required, about how a Liberal government could do it better for Canadians on the international stage. Iggy, citizen of convenience of many lands, has made this a centerpiece in his advocacy for the hearts and minds of Canada's populous. So I have to wonder how he felt when he read the front page of this morning's Globe?

This story announcing that one of this country's shining international diplomatic stars, Chris Alexander, is planning to run for the Conservatives in Ajax-Pickering must have resulted in some coffee being spilled at Stornoway. Alexander, both former Canadian and UN envoy to Afghanistan, is getting into mainstream politics to make a new kind of contribution. Alexander, a Chretien appointee to Afghanistan, is wrapping himself in a blue banner in part, I presume, because he sees Canada's international reputation being better advanced by a Conservative government. If you are a Liberal, Alexander's choice does have an impact in wounding the credibility of one of your leader's central arguments for support.
