John McCallum: Interim leader of the Liberals?

CTV is reporting that John McCallum will be named interim leader of the Liberals when Mr. Dion steps down this afternoon. Though Mr. Dion could change his mind.

If the CTV prophesy comes true, McCallum is an odd choice. While he certainly has some quality blue chip economic credentials and is bilingual, he is not a great communicator. He also represents the old guard of the Liberal Party. A strange face to put in the window at a time when some new energy and renewal are clearly needed.

Hopefully, Mr. McCallum's views on the state of the global economic uncertainty have evolved. Last year when the Prime Minister said the world was changing, McCallum was dismissive of those claims. We all do need to work together now so bygones can be bygones.
