Rob obviously knows more about the Liberal Party than I do. However, unsurprisingly I have a bit of a different take on today's Liberal infighting than he does.

Prior the unification of the Conservative Party by Stephen Harper, Peter MacKay and other Conservatives fighting with Conservatives was a daily event. It happened so often the media practically lost interest in covering it. Who could blame them really? We all looked like a bunch of incompetent jackasses who couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time. We weren't ready for prime time or at least that was the image that was conveyed to the public.

The Liberals, long the envy of Conservatives for their discipline of power and comportment, now look like Conservatives in opposition. It wasn't just today's Coderre caper and its subsequent collateral. Last week, there was that Hill Times story where anonymous Liberals were talking about the Liberal Party being massacred in the next election. Within the past six weeks there were public reports about incompetency in the Opposition Leaders Office (OLO). A pattern is developing that, if not addressed, means Iggy is going to be in real trouble. He may fall victim to the Tory syndrome identified above and coined by Globe legend Jeffrey Simpson.

Stephen Harper may not need to beat Iggy at the polls; he may have it done for him by old Tory practices performed by Liberals. Who said the Liberals didn't learn something from us?
