Want to celebrate the life of Jack Layton? Here are some of the events going on Wednesday across the country.

Vancouver: Remembering Jack Layton, an informal gathering at the Vancouver Convention Centre at 6 p.m. (PT).

Calgary: Drink Orange Crush (in remembrance of the NDP's election performance in Quebec last year) and watch a live stream of Toronto's events at Melrose Cafe and Bar, 7 p.m. (MT).

Toronto: The biggest celebration, with the Layton family and the Broadbent Institute as hosts and featuring performers such as Ron Sexsmith and Raffi in Nathan Phillips Square at 6 p.m. (ET).

Ottawa: Vigil at the Centennial Flame, on Parliament Hill, at 11 a.m. (ET), and a picnic in Hintonburg Park at 6 p.m.

Montreal: Commemoration at Les Bobards (one of Mr. Layton's favourite Montreal bars) at 6 p.m. (ET).

St. John's: Provincial NDP holds event at Harbourside Park at 6 p.m. (NT).

Later in the week

Edmonton: New Democratic MP Linda Duncan and musical acts at Grant Notley Park, Friday at 7 p.m. (MT)
