A 15-year-old girl in Mississauga has been charged with second-degree murder after a man in his 50s was stabbed to death.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim or the accused because the accused is a minor, but they confirmed the crime was domestic.

Police received a call about a stabbing Tuesday evening and arrived at a house on Rogerson Road near Mavis Road and Matheson Boulevard West at 5:00 p.m. The man was still alive then but died later in hospital from his injuries.

Peel Regional Police Sergeant Matt Small said he could not recall another incident of a minor female being charged with homicide in the region. From 2000 to 2010, a total of seven females age 12 to 17 were accused of homicide in Canada, according to Statistics Canada.

In Canada, younger adult males are most likely to be accused of homicide versus the rest of the population; in 2011, the average age for those accused was 32 years.
