Police believe that a body found on the shore of Lake Ontario is that of a missing Whitby teacher.
A coroner has been called to the scene to confirm the identity and cause of death, according to Durham Regional Police.
"We investigated many different scenarios. We don't suspect any foul play at this point. What we know is we found something we believe to be Jeff Boucher," said Detective Jeff Kennedy in a press conference Saturday.
"The investigation continues and cause and manner of death have yet to be determined."
The body was found in Whitby shortly after 2 p.m. by a local resident walking his dog. The body was partially encased in ice and was exposed as recent warmer temperatures started to melt away the ice, Det. Kennedy told CP24.
Jeffrey Boucher, 52, has been missing since Jan. 13 when he is believed to have been out for a regular morning run.
"Several thousand volunteer hours have gone into [the search]," Det. Kennedy said.
"This possibly may come to an end now from this discovery."
Mr. Boucher's second running shoe was found earlier in the day at about 11 a.m. in the same area police found his left shoe earlier this month.
