Certain neighbourhoods in downtown Toronto have seen their populations expand by as much as 434 per cent in the last five years. Infrastructure is scrambling to match the pace of the city's growth, and residents in some areas are becoming increasingly concerned about density.

Below, the number of people per square kilometer is mapped for Toronto and surrounding cities. The data comes from the 2006 and 2011 censuses, provided by Statistics Canada.

Power station capacities are also mapped for the downtown core. Toronto Hydro has noted these stations will see increasing strain as condo developments continue over the next several years.
