Two lanes of Lake Shore Boulevard in downtown Toronto were closed Monday morning after chunks of concrete fell from the Gardiner Expressway, damaging a vehicle.

Shortly before 11 a.m., a slab of concrete fell from the highway and dented the windshield of a black Mercedes Benz travelling eastbound on Lake Shore Boulevard East near Yonge Street.

There are no reports of injuries to the driver, John Pandell, who was on his way to work Monday when the concrete chunks fell from the expressway above.

Last month, the city launched an inspection of the Gardiner and the pedestrian walkways beneath it, after pieces of concrete fell from the expressway on three separate occasions. On May 7, a piece of concrete fell onto Lake Shore Blvd. just east of Jarvis. Three days later, another chunk fell from an underpass onto Parkside Drive. On May 22, a piece fell from the highway onto Lower Simcoe Street.
