Cisco to partner with Pan Am Games for ‘most connected’ event ever

Cisco will be the official technology sponsor for the 2015 Pan Am Games, organizers announced Wednesday morning, saying the event will be be the "most connected" Games ever.

"It's about building a future and investing in the community by leaving a technology legacy that will serve the community long after the Games are over," said Nitin Kawale, president of Cisco Canada.

The company, which was also the Official Network Infrastructure Partner for London 2012 this year, will be building an "end to end network" which will include powering the athletes village, tickets booths and Wi-Fi.

Cisco will also be involved in designing the technology to help connect fans to the Games, an increasingly important component of sporting events as the use of mobile devices like smartphones become ubiquitous, Mr. Kawale said.
