Toronto's homicide tally for the year climbed to 36 over the weekend as separate shooting incidents took the lives of two men in their 20s, including a Somali-Canadian found slain on a Scarborough street early Saturday.

Elsewhere in the Greater Toronto Area, three other people also died violently, including a father and his 6-year-old son who perished in a murder-suicide.

Abdulaziz Farah, 28, was the fourth Somali-Canadian to be shot to death in Toronto since early June, and more than 20 others with Toronto connections have been murdered in Alberta since 2005.

Most of those deaths involved drugs and gangs, but although Mr. Farah was known to police as far back as 2006, it's unclear why he was killed, Detective Omar Khan said Sunday.

Shot multiple times, Mr. Farah's body was discovered outside a house on Fawcett Trail near Sheppard Avenue and Morningside Avenue at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

His black, four-door Acura was later found about eight kilometres away, in a parking lot near Port Union Road and Kingston Road. It has chrome rims and the Ontario licence plate BMEP 115.

Police believe the car was abandoned there by his killer or killers and are urging anyone who spotted it before or after the shooting, or who may have glimpsed Mr. Farah before he was killed, to contact them.

He was wearing a red-checkered shirt, blue jeans and running shoes, and police believe he drove his car to the spot where he was fatally shot "We want to speak to anyone who may have seen this vehicle on Friday the 8th or on Saturday morning," Det. Khan said.

"It's another funeral, it's very disturbing," said Mohamed Gilao, who runs Dejinta Beesha, an Etobicoke-based Somali settlement organization.

He said he knows Mr. Farah's father, but has had little contact with the family – believed to be from Mogadishu – because they live on the other side of the city, in Scarborough.

"Dying this way, it's a tragedy."

Less than 24 hours later, another shooting in a Scarborough apartment building at Main Street north of Kingston Road left a 26-year-old man dead in a fifth-floor hallway, from a single gunshot wound.

No arrests had been made and the victim's name was not immediately released.

West of Toronto in Milton, Halton Regional Police said that the deaths of 6-year-old Noah Kosalka and his father, Wojciech, 43, have been ruled a murder-suicide.

Their bodies, too, were discovered Saturday, but police would not disclose how the Kosalkas died.

And in Mississauga, Peel detectives were hunting for the husband of a 40-year-old Mississauga woman, Aicha Saludares, found dead in her home Saturday afternoon.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Nelson Tayongtong, who police said should be considered dangerous.
