Toronto police say Constable John Zivcic, who spent the weekend fighting for his life after a crash this weekend, has died, Dec. 2, 2013

Friends and family of Constable John Zivcic, who died yesterday after a weekend car crash, will mark the officer's death in a full police funeral next week.

According to Toronto Police Association President Mike McCormack, a service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Toronto Congress Centre.

Two public visitations will take place on Sunday at Del Moro Funeral Home in North York between 2 and 4 p.m. and then 7 and 9 p.m.

Police say plans are being made for the constable's organs to be donated.

The 34-year-old officer spent the weekend fighting for his life at St. Michael's Hospital after his cruiser collided with another vehicle near Bloor Street West and Neilson Drive. At the time of the incident, police say Constable Zivcic had been responding to an emergency call regarding a drunk driver. He died surrounded by family at 12:35 p.m. yesterday.

The collision is still being investigated.

According to police, Constable Zivcic became a traffic services officer for Division 22 after joining the force in August 2007.

He received a commendation a few years ago for helping a young Canadian woman involved in a vehicular collision in Cuba.

He is the most recent Toronto officer to die in the line of duty since January 2011, when Sgt. Ryan Russell was run over by a man operating a stolen snowplow.
