The December ice storm that left hundreds of thousands of Toronto residents without power cost the city approximately $106-million, according to a report from city staff.

The report was released Wednesday in advance of a special Toronto council meeting on Friday to ask the provincial and federal governments for assistance after the storm that also devastated some of the city's parks and infrastructure. The city's cleanup effort is ongoing, and is expected to take up to two months.

"The scope and magnitude of this extreme winter storm was unprecedented," the report says. The $106-million figure includes estimated expenses for 2014, as well as lost revenue.

The staff report asks the provincial government to declare Toronto a "disaster area" in order to receive help from the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program.

According to the report, storm-related damage in 2013 cost Toronto $171-million in total.
