Police tape demarking a crime scene.JOHN LEHMANN

A middle-aged man was found dead in a west Toronto schoolyard Christmas morning, but who he is and how he died remain a mystery.

Police were called to Kent Senior Public School, on Dufferin Street just south of Bloor, shortly before 8:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

There they found the victim, who had collapsed. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Three days later, however, police were still trying to identify him, because he carried no identification.

He's described as white, aged between 35 and 45. Heavy set, he was six-feet tall, weighing 230 pounds, and the second finger on his right hand had been previously amputated at the first joint.

He was wearing a dark grey fleece sweater, a dark grey "Pacific Trail" jacket, a black, orange and white sweater, grey work pants and steel-toed construction boots.

Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to contact police at 416-808-1100, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or www.222tips.com .
