Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is warning dog owners to keep their pets on leashes or face getting a ticket.

Mr. Ford says there will be a blitz against owners who let their dogs off the leash in non-designated areas.

The mayor says he has received complaints about people letting their dogs off the leash during the recent warm weather.

Mr. Ford says he has been told a couple of kids have been bitten by off-leash dogs.

He says he loves dogs but they can't be "running wild."

The mayor says owners can consider themselves warned.

"So if a bylaw officer comes up and hands you a ticket for a few hundred dollars, I'm giving you the heads up."
