Toronto Mayor Rob Ford wants to get rid of the bike lanes on Jarvis Street, saying he is responding to public demand.

"I get a lot of people calling me. They want to get rid of them. I do what the taxpayers want me to do. They want them gone so we are going to try to get rid of them, " he said Thursday during a ribbon cutting event at a medical supply store.

The Mayor made the remarks on the same day that the public works committee is considering a new cycling report that includes a proposal for separated bike lanes.

That report does not include any recommendations on the controversial Jarvis Street lanes, but a motion on those lanes is expected to be introduced.
