Public health officials in Toronto say mosquitoes in the city have tested positive for West Nile virus.
Officials say the virus was responsible for 11 deaths in Toronto in 2002, but has been on the decline for the past several years.
Toronto Public Health spokesman Dr. Howard Shapiro is advising residents to protect themselves from bites by using bug spray and covering up when they're in areas with lots of mosquitoes.
Dr. Shapiro is also recommending that people drain standing water near their homes in order to reduce mosquito breeding grounds.
Toronto Public Health has 43 bug traps throughout the city and sends mosquitoes for testing every week.
The health agency says this is the first time this summer that one of the bugs has tested positive.
