The westbound lanes of Toronto's Gardiner Expressway have re-opened after a multi-vehicle crash shut down the busy route during Friday morning's commute.

Authorities say as many as 22 vehicles were involved in the pileup in the westbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway (at Dufferin Street) but there's no immediate word on any injuries.

The cause is unknown, but police have been warning of the danger of black ice on the roads due to the very cold temperatures.

Earlier Friday, the Gardiner was shut down just west of the Don Valley Parkway after a three-vehicle crash.

Paramedics received the call around 5:30 a.m. and transported one person to hospital with neck and back injuries.

Two other people had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
