A former national-level figure skater and coach has been charged with the alleged sexual assault of an ex-student dating back nearly 30 years.

Toronto police say the male student, who was 12 years old at the time, alleges the incidents occurred between 1983 and 1990.

Investigators say the coach taught figure skating at a number of schools throughout Ontario during the 1980s, including the Woodbine Winter Skating Club, Weston Skating Club, Windsor Skating Club and Burlington Skating Club.

Police believe there may be more victims.

Kevin Michael Hicks, 53, of Toronto, faces four counts of sexual assault and one count of buggery.
