GO Transit says a pedestrian has died after being hit by one of its trains on the Lakeshore West line.

The incident happened before Port Credit around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for Metrolinx, which operates GO transit, says passengers were still stuck on the train an hour later.

Anne Marie Aikins did not know how many people were on board, but she says the train can hold up to 1,800 passengers.

She says buses have been called to help passengers get to their destinations.

She says the pedestrian was not struck at a level crossing.
