Toronto police are hunting for a 23-year-old man they believe killed one club-goer and wounded another during early-morning shooting in the city's Entertainment District last Thursday.

Nisar Hashimi, 23, is currently the subject of a city-wide manhunt. He's wanted for first-degree murder and attempted murder using a firearm, Toronto Police Detective Joyce Schertzer told reporters on Wednesday.

Police arranged for Mr. Hashimi's surrender through a lawyer on Wednesday morning, "however Mr. Hashimi did not honour that arrangement," Det. Schertzer said.

Police are now asking for family and friends of the accused to turn him in.

"My advice to Mr. Nisar Hashimi is to turn yourself in to police immediately," Det. Schertzer said. "Every officer on duty in the City of Toronto has your picture."

Anthony Smith, 21, died several hours after he was gunned down at the corner of King St. West and Portland St. around 2:40 a.m.

Police now believe it was a targeted hit. A second victim survived the shooting.

The intersection lies at the nexus of several nightclubs and bars and is especially active at that hour. Based on the hours of security footage investigators have reviewed from the area, there remain dozens of eyewitnesses who have not come forward to police, said Det. Schertzer.
