Toronto police say there was no abduction at York University.

In a tweet, police said "officers have determined that the alleged abduction at York University did not occur."

Toronto police were investigating after a witness reportedly saw an unidentified person being forced into a van outside the university's fine arts building Wednesday just before 5 p.m.

Constable Wendy Drummond said earlier they didn't know whether the person is male or female, only that the witness saw a person wearing white shoes, a winter jacket and jeans forced into the side door of an older model van by two men. Police say the van was a brown Safari or Astro van.

She said police were investigating it as an abduction, but they were also looking into whether it was a staged project given the close proximity to the school's arts building.

Police were looking through security footage to see if the incident was captured.
