Ride along on Rob Ford and Deadmau5’s coffee road trip

It wasn't the comedy gold of, say, Harold and Kumar's White Castle excursion or Jeff Labowski and Walter Sobchak's trip to the In-n-Out Burger. But Deadmau5 and Rob Ford's fast-food road trip – a coffee date at Tim Hortons – did get a few laughs online.

Mr. Ford appeared Wednesday on the Toronto musician's YouTube show Coffee Run, where celebrity guests join him for coffee dates. Deadmau5 had first extended the coffee-date invitation to the mayor on Twitter in March.

The mayor ordered five espressos in one cup, while Deadmau5 ordered a double-double. The pair spent the car ride discussing CFL football, board games, the performance of Deadmau5’s 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider F1 edition (”this thing can fly,” the mayor said) and the pleasures of fast driving.

“Everybody likes speed, I think,” the mayor said. “But if I’m by myself. I obviously don’t have the kids or the wife in the car. I just drive a Caddy … If I’m up north, like Highway 11, something, way up there after it splits up at the cottage up there, sometimes I open it up. Cops catch me, I’m toast. That’s the problem.”

“Nobody’s above the law,” Deadmau5 said. “not even the mayor.”

“That’s for sure,” the mayor said.

The coffee run took place just over a month after Deadmau5 put his Ferrari – dubbed the Purrari because of its vinyl wrap themed after the Internet meme NyanCat – up for sale for $380,000 on Craigslist.

Deadmau5, the alias of Joel Zimmerman, has also played host to Tom Green, Russell Peters and Pharell on the show.
