York University acted slowly in notifying students about three sexual assaults on campus last week, students say.
All three victims were allegedly assaulted on July 5 and 6 by a man after leaving a TTC bus stop in front of Vari Hall, a commonly used student space.
Students, however, only received e-mail notifications and were warned about the sexual assaults over social media four days after the initial attack.
"They should have done it sooner," Vanessa Hunt, president of York Federation of Students said. "It's just appalling that these sexual assaults happened in broad daylight on campus."
Joanne Rider, the director for media relations, said the university had posted security bulletins around the campus and on the website.
"We have been proactive," she said. "We made the decision to leverage the social media later. We could have done that on Friday, but we waited since we have more students back on campus on Monday."
Police have charged a 20-year-old Toronto man in connection with the case.
Oshane Leach faces charges of three counts of sexual assault, two counts of criminal Harassment and two counts of assault on Monday night.
