Presumably, Sue-Ann Levy will return to her old gig as the Toronto Sun's acid-tongued city hall columnist after losing the St. Paul's by-election last night to Liberal candidate Dr. Eric Hoskins.

By all accounts, she ran a credible campaign and got some big names to help her out on the stump, including former mayor Mel Lastman, former Progressive Conservative leader (and mayoral wannabe) John Tory, and Tim Hudak, leader of the opposition

Where at least I know I'm free.

And I won't forget the men who died,

Who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,

Next to you and defend her still today.

Released in 1984, the song was first used for political purposes that same year at the Republican National Convention in Dallas. The soaring anthem, which has become a staple of GOP events, might lift the spirits today of some of the more blue-blooded members of Ms. Levy's party, who must be wondering what it takes to scratch the Teflon-encased McGuinty Liberals.

It turns out the American website isn't run by the Republicans, but rather the Levy County Supervisor of Elections in Florida. It's actually a voter's information site.

As for Dr. Hoskin's campaign web page, votehoskins.ca and .com redirect to the same site. Those darn Liberals think of everything.
