The main suspect in a brazen Entertainment District shooting has turned himself in, capping off a 24-hour manhunt.

Nisar Hashimi, 23, surrendered to police at 14 Division on Thursday morning.

Toronto police singled him out on Wednesday as the man they believe is responsible for killing one club-goer and wounding another during an early-morning shooting at King Street West and Portland Street last Thursday.

Anthony Smith, 21, died several hours after he was gunned down around 2:40 a.m.

Police now believe it was a targeted hit.

A second victim survived the shooting.

Detective Joyce Schertzer told reporters on Wednesday that Mr. Hashimi was wanted for first degree murder and attempted murder using a firearm.

Police arranged for Mr. Hashimi's surrender through a lawyer on Wednesday morning, "however Mr. Hashimi did not honour that arrangement," Det. Schertzer said.

Several nightclubs and bars surround the intersection, making it especially crowded in the early-morning hours. Police have spotted dozens of eyewitnesses while reviewing security footage and are asking them to come forward.
