Luminato Festival takes over the city's downtown venues, or at least the ones not occupied by Toronto Jazz, Pride Toronto or NXNE. Here are three highlights of this year's arts and cultural jamboree. (To June 28, 416-368-4849, luminatofestival.com)

7 Monologues

Seven solo shows, one after the other, include a new work by playwright Daniel MacIvor and a musical-visual performance by Winnipeg musician Christine Fellows.

June 20 (11 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and June 21 (11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.). Various prices. Harbourfront Centre Theatre (235 Queens Quay W.) and Fleck Dance Theatre (207 Queens Quay W.).

Jason Collett's Basement Revue

Much like the self-styled rapping underdog Drake, the singer-songwriter Jason Collett started at the bottom (downstairs at the Dakota Tavern). His nightly musical and literary occasion is now above ground and a place for celebrity pop-ins.

Nightly, 10:30 p.m. $27.60. Pecaut Square, 215 King St. W

Apocalypsis

Given that R. Murray Schafer's epic oratorio with a cast of 1,000 was last performed in 1980, it could be said that we've been living in a post-Apocalypsis society ever since.

June 26 to 28, 8 p.m. $66 to $158. Sony Centre, 1 Front St. E.
