Two people have been shot during the robbery at a TD Canada Trust bank near Runnymede Road and St. Clair Avenue in Toronto, police say

The heist happened around 12:30 p.m. ET Sunday. A TD branch near the intersection is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m..

A spokesman for TD Bank confirms one of the victims is an employee; the other is a customer. Police said both were expected to survive.

"There are two suspects. We are active in the area looking for them," Sergeant Suzanne Pinto said.

It wasn't immediately clear if the robbers made off with any cash.

Broadcast media reported that the robbers fled in a stolen green Honda, licence plate AKAC789, but police would not confirm this.

Police said Sunday evening that they recovered a stolen car it's believed the men used to make their getaway.

The car was to be turned over to forensics investigators.

CP24 television news reported that a female and male had been shot during the attempted heist, and that the two robbers left behind some bills – marked with dye – in the bank parking lot as they fled.

The female victim was said to have been shot inside the bank, where an eyewitness told CP24 that the male victim had taken a stand against the robbers.

Calling the male victim "the bravest guy I've ever seen," the eyewitness told CP24 that the male victim resisted the robbers' orders to get down on the ground.

A struggle is said to have erupted inside the bank, and the male victim is said to have confronted the robbers in the parking lot as they entered their getaway car.

That was when he was shot in the stomach, according to the eyewitness. There was no word on the female's injuries.

Neither the robbers, the victims, nor the eyewitness have been identified publicly at this time as police continue the manhunt.

The suspects are believed to be in their 20s and both armed with guns.
