Police are investigating after a 42-year-old man was shot and killed near a soccer field in the city's north west end Tuesday night.

The shooting happened close to 9:30 p.m. at Eglinton Flats, near Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue West, police said.

They found a man who had suffered a single gunshot wound in the parking lot beside a soccer field, they said. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Staff Sergeant Lesley Hildred said more than a dozen witnesses have been transported to 12 Division where they are being interviewed by police.

"The information that we have so far was that a white SUV-type vehicle, maybe a Range Rover, was seen leaving the area right after the shot was fired," she said.

No other injuries were reported, according to EMS officials.

Asked whether there could be a connection to Monday night's deadly shooting in Scarborough, Staff Sergeant Hildred said, "No, I wouldn't know."
