Toronto Police had a local high school in lockdown today before they found and removed a loaded gun from a student's backpack.
Police from 42 Division received a Crime Stoppers tip today indicating that an individual at Blessed Mother Teresa Secondary School had a loaded .357 Magnum in a backpack, said Staff Sergeant Karl Heilimo. He was unsure of how many rounds were in it.
The school is located near Morningside and Sheppard Avenues in Scarborough.
The person mentioned in the Crime Stoppers phone call was apprehended, but the gun was not in his or her possession when police arrived at the scene, he added.
"The gun had been passed from one person to the fourth person who was in possession of the backpack with the firearm," he said. "They obviously know each other and were passing it off in an effort to avoid the gun being seized."
Three young men and one female were arrested. Charges have not been determined at this point.
Police are still investigating.
