Toronto police show off guns seized in a 2005 raid.Jim Ross

Toronto police have re-issued six public warnings about men wanted in firearm investigations as part of the force's efforts to crack down on gun crime in the city.

The public warnings are related to investigations from 2009 to 2012. Constable Tony Vella said the police re-issued the warnings to show that "we're not going to stop until we've got these illegal firearms off the streets."

While not connected to this summer's shootings at the Eaton Centre or the Scarborough block party at which two people were killed and 23 wounded, Constable Vella said the public warnings are an "indication of our efforts to locate these people through the public's help ... and we have more officers on the street looking for them."

In an interview with The Globe and Mail on Tuesday, police chief Bill Blair said the force is trying encourage people to come forward with tips.
