Authorities say a WestJet plane landed safely at Toronto's Pearson Airport this morning on an unscheduled stop due to an engine problem.

Airport spokesman Scott Armstrong says WestJet Flight 585 was headed from Hamilton to Calgary.

Officials say the plane was met by emergency crews when it landed.

Peel police say the Boeing 737 had a problem with one of its engines but all of the 152 people on board are safe.

WestJet spokeswoman Brie Ogle said in an e-mail the plane has been "taken offline" for maintenance. She added all passengers are to be put on alternative flights and are expected to reach Calgary today.
