Toronto Mayor Rob Ford met up with Hollywood funnymen Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis Monday, in town to promote their latest movie, a satire of two political opponents running for U.S. Congress.
The pair met Toronto's top politician at the Hockey Hall of Fame where they traded quips over the Stanley Cup. Mr. Ferrell, who rode up to the front doors on a Zamboni, was wearing a LA Kings jersey, but assured Leaf fans their players would hoist the cup one day.
Mr. Ford, known for his door-to-door campaign style, was quick to put "Rob Ford for Mayor" buttons on the two actors and gave them some tips for locking up the vote.
"Gotta give magnets everywhere you go," said the Mayor handing his trademark fridge magnets, cards and bumper stickers. "Everyone you meet gets a business card."
"Gotta knock on doors. Don't stop meeting people, shaking hands," said the Mayor, who has already said he plans to run again.
"Just keep going hard. Just don't hit babies, though," the Mayor said referring to a scene in the film. "It's very simple. Every person you meet, hand them a magnet and a business card - and return people's phone calls. Customer service is number one."
Asked if he any advice for the Mayor, Mr. Ferrell responded, "mayor who?"
The meeting was part of an 11-day tour for the movie, The Campaign, which ends tomorrow in Washington D.C. Toronto was the only stop in Canada.
