The worker who was killed in the collapse of a roof at the construction site for a new Target Canada location on Monday has been identified as Chris Crawford.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children, family members, as well as our Vixman family," said Daryl Brisco, president of Vixman Construction, in a statement released on Tuesday.
The Ontario Ministry of Labour will continue to investigate the site at the Sheridan Centre shopping mall in Mississauga until at least Friday, according to spokesman Bruce Skeaff.
It has not yet been determined what caused a metal roof at the site to fall down, badly injuring Mr. Crawford and trapping him underneath for about an hour.
Rescue efforts using large machinery quickly commenced at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday, but Mr. Crawford was pronounced dead by the time he was pulled out.
Vixman Construction was a subcontractor on PCL Constructors Canada's development of a new Target Canada location.
"Obviously, it's a sad day here. Right now we're just thinking about his family," said Rob Long, head of sales at Vixman Construction, on Monday.
Mississauga fire platoon chief Mike Corcoran says Mr. Crawford's exact cause of death is currently unknown.
Construction at the site of the accident will not resume until the investigation is finished.
