As Newsweek announced it will no longer exist as a print magazine, instead moving to a digital-only model called Newsweek Global, The Globe takes a look at some of the weekly magazine's more memorable covers

First edition of Newsweek Magazine - Vol. I , No. 1. The exact day of release was February 17, 1933 and it cost 10 cents. Seven photographs from the week's news were printed on the first issue's cover. It was called News-Week.

Designer Diane Von Furstenberg appeared on the cover of Newsweek in March 1976 wearing her popular wrap dress which has made a comeback and is being embraced by svelt figues from Soho to southern California.

The Los Angeles Police Department's booking photograph of O.J. Simpson appears on the covers of the June 27, 1994, issues of both Time and Newsweek magazines. Time's version, in which Simpson's skin appears darker, is credited as a “photo-illustration for Time by Matt Mahurin.” Newsweek's credit line for the image reads “Photo by Los Angeles Police Department.” “Time covers more often than not reflect something other than a news photo, because it is considered cover art,” said Nancy Kearney, speaking for the magazine.

The cover of the August 7, 2000 edition of Newsweek International features a photograph of Concorde Air France Flight 4590 shortly after takeoff at Charles DeGaulle Airport in Paris. Taken by a Japanese traveler onboard a plane on the airport runway, the photo shows the fire from a different angle.

Princess Diana is seen on the cover of Newsweek magazine in a cover image released to Reuters on June 28, 2011. Princess Diana has returned from the grave on the front cover of Newsweek in a picture that imagines her, and her life, as it might have been had she lived to mark her 50th birthday on Friday.
