Chilean miner Edison Pena didn't know it on Wednesday when he shook, rattled and rolled up an escape shaft to freedom after 69 days trapped below, but he was about to get an invitation to Graceland.
Self-proclaimed Elvis Presley fan Pena was the 12th of 33 miners to be lifted to the surface in a tight-fitting metal capsule as part of the stunning rescue, which was watched live on television around the world.
Graceland spokeswoman Alicia Dean told Reuters that Pena and a guest have been invited for an all-expenses paid trip to Elvis' former home, which now serves as a museum and tourist attraction in Memphis, Tennessee.
The invitation was also posted on Graceland's website.
"We heard on the news that he's a huge Elvis fan," Dean said.
Pena, recovering from his ordeal in a hospital near the northern Chilean mine along with the other formerly trapped workers, was not immediately available for comment.
