The Titanic had everything, it would seem. There was a heated pool – the first at sea – as well as a gymnasium, squash courts, and a Turkish bath. There were also clothing shops, a barbershop, a beauty salon, smoking lounges, libraries and a fully-equipped darkroom. The bathrooms had showers, bathtubs, double sinks and flushing toilets.
Everything, it would seem, except an effective evacuation plan, and enough lifeboats for all the 2,224 passengers and crew. As a result, 1,513 perished at sea and only 711 survived.
