Pilots walk out of a Bombardier Challenger 300 business jet.Kin Cheung/The Associated Press

Bombardier Inc. has received a firm order for 10 Challenger business jets, which have a list price of about US$280 million.

Bombardier Aerospace said the customer's name isn't being disclosed.

The company is one of the world's largest suppliers of business jets, sold under a variety of brands including Challenger, Global and Learjet.

It has been vying to maintain top spot in terms of sales with a strong challenge this year from American rival Gulfstream, a subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD).

Bombardier said the most recent order is for Challenger 300 jets and five Challenger 605 jets.
