The Competition Bureau has filed an application with the Competition Tribunal which seeks to encourage competition in the natural-gas hot-water heater market. The application has the consent of Enbridge Services Inc., which is the main supplier of such units. The Competition Bureau initiated an inquiry last May after getting complaints about the high cost that consumers had to pay to get out of the Enbridge Services water-heater rental program in parts of Ontario. It concluded that the company's exit charges and conditions prevented other companies from attracting customers. Enbridge Services is a unit of Enbridge Inc.
