Some industries are far ahead of others in adding women to their boards of directors.

Natural resources companies,  including energy  and materials (mining and forestry) firms, lag all other sectors for the proportion of women on their boards, and a majority of energy companies in the S&P/TSX composite index have no female directors.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, sectors such as consumer staples, health care and telecommunications lead the pack, with women accounting for almost one quarter of directors in those industries.
