KARL MOORE – This is Karl Moore of the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University, Talking Management for the Globe & Mail. Today I am in Moscow with 44 McGill students and alumni, and we just spent an hour with Marina Treshchova who is the CEO of Fast Lane Ventures, Enterprises.
So Marina, in North America we often talk about a glass ceiling for women. What is the opportunity for women leaders here in Russia?
MARINA TRESHCHOVA – Yes, I think that today Russia is actually a great market for women all over the world, not only Russian women, to become leaders. It comes a little bit from, and it's just my personal belief, the Soviet Union where really in Russia we would always be both at work and very active supporting the families and really doing so which I think is natural for women – to do a lot of things at the same time, in a multi-tasking environment working. But today in Russia I don't think that there is really a so-called glass ceiling for Russian women. If you work hard, if you take on challenges, if you are good with people and can really find the right people and are professional you can very quickly a good and strong leader for the business. There are certain sectors, which I believe, are still not that, I would say, open for women but it is mostly the ones which don't I think are most interesting like natural resources, oil and gas, and some construction. But some very dynamic sectors like the Internet, or consumer space, are where you see a lot of women, or the media sector, where you see a lot of women who are very active and are top management or CEO's of the businesses.
