Jack Dorsey is the 35-year-old co-founder and chairman of Twitter – and also the head of another fast-growing firm, mobile payments company Square. This demands not only an 80-hour workweek, but also some organizational skills that can also help people who have just one job. "The only way to do this is to be very disciplined. I theme my days," he recently told a conference, according to CNN MoneyTech writer Stacy Cowley.
Every day Mr. Dorsey focuses on one specific aspect of corporate development, avoiding other issues as best as he can:
Monday: Management meetings and running-the-company work.
Tuesday: Product development.
Wednesday: Marketing, communications and growth.
Thursday: Developers and partnerships.
Friday: The company and its culture.
"There's interruptions all the time, but I can quickly deal with an interruption and know, 'It's Tuesday, I have product meetings, I have to focus on product stuff,'" he says. "It sets a good cadence for the company."
Each day he puts in eight hours at Twitter and then walks two blocks to his next eight-hour shift at Square. Saturdays are for hiking while Sundays are for reflection, feedback and strategy.
