Garda World Security Corp. has bought Intertec Security Ltd., a company with 650 employees in the Toronto and Hamilton region, for $4.9-million.

The deal for the Canadian-owned security company, which has annual revenue of $16.5-million, is effective July 1.

The 35-year-old company's services include providing security officers, mobile patrols, executive protection and parking control.

Garda, one of North America's leading suppliers of security and armoured truck services, said Tuesday the deal will have "a positive impact on this year's financial results."

Allan Bentley, senior vice-president for Ontario and Western Canada, said Intertec will help Garda World strengthen its leading position in Ontario.

"We are maintaining our focus on our expansion strategy through internal growth and acquisitions. We will continue in this direction in the following months," said Stephan Cretier, president and CEO of Garda.

Garda has been expanding its operations in Canada and the United States through acquisitions over the past few years.

Garda provides security, cash handling, investigations, consulting and pre-employment screening services. The Montreal-headquartered company employs over 19,000 people and has offices across Canada as well as offices in the United States, Mexico and Europe.
