Golf equipment retailer Golf Town is expanding further into the promotional gear business with its acquisition of corporate promotional product provider Accolade Reaction Promotion Group Inc.

The former Golf Town Income Fund, purchased last year by the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, said Monday the deal "establishes us as the leading player in a market with enormous potential."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Former Accolade CEO Marc Roy will oversee the combined corporate merchandising activities of the two companies as an executive vice-president at Golf Town.

Golf Town currently provides logo products for golf events and other programs. The purchase of Accolade will move it into the more general field of corporate merchandise for businesses, meeting planners, sales and marketing executives, and human resource professionals.

"This acquisition is the latest step in Golf Town's continued evolution, and establishes us as the leading player in a market with enormous potential," president and CEO Stephen Bebis said in a statement.

Accolade sells a variety of "logo-ready" products from clothing and jewellery to electronics, luggage and musical instruments.
