Swedish wireless equipment maker LM Ericsson says it has received a $1.1-billion (U.S.) contract from Australia's National Broadband Network to build a fixed wireless broadband network.

Ericsson says the deal includes the rollout of its 4G technology Long Term Evolution, or LTE, network serving rural Australia.

Ericsson said Wednesday that the Australian government is investing $38-billion in improving its infrastructure, including making high-speed broadband available to all inhabitants.

Under the 10-year agreement Ericsson will design, build, and operate the network.
