Ten of Canada's most successful crowdfunding campaigns

Kickstarter and Indiegogo, two of the most popular donation-based crowdfunding sites in the country, give creative people the opportunity to fund their projects via online donations or pre-purchasing of products or experiences. These are the top 10 Canadian entrepreneurial crowdfunding campaigns of the year. The figures are accurate as of Dec. 27.

MILTON'S SECRET is a feature film based on the book by Eckhart Tolle and Robert S. Friedman. It's a coming of age story about an 11-year-old boy growing up in an economically depressed suburb, and the elderquest of his grandfather. Hulo Films, the Vancouver-based studio producing the film, has so far raised $304,997 (U.S.) on Indiegogo.

PIPER is a small piece of technology that's packed with sensors. It works seamlessly with Android and iOS smartphones and tablets and can be paired with smart home accessories to keep you safe and in control. The Ottawa-based startup has raised $309,119 (U.S.) on Indiegogo.

PROTEST THE HERO NEW ALBUM. Protest the Hero, the Toronto-based band that’s been around for 13 years, has decided to raise money for the album directly from the people who have helped keep the band going all these years. So far they’ve raised $341,146 (U.S.) on Indiegogo.

TellSpec is a device that shows allergens in your food. The Toronto-based company raised $386,392 (U.S.) on Indiegogo.

WIPEBOOK. Developed by by Frank Bouchard of Ottawa, Wipebook takes the whiteboard experience and converted into a notebook that helps you generate great ideas where ever you go! The company has raised $424,314 of its $4,000 goal on Kickstarter.

PHOTON allows anyone to take a physical object, and turn it into a digital 3D model on your computer. From there, you can print your file on any 3D printer, or online printing service. Or use the model you created in an animation or video game. Matterform, the Toronto-based company, co-founded by Adam Brandejs and Drew Cox, has raised $471,082 on Indiegogo.

Masters Of Anatomy is a book drawn by animators, illustrators and comic-book artists who have worked for Disney, Pixar, Dream Works, Marvel and DC. The Toronto-based company has raised 532,614 on Kickstarter

The Peachy Printer is an affordable 3-D printer made by Rinnovated Design. The Saskatchewan company raised $651,091 on Kickstarter.

PINE is the the definitive all-in-one smartwatch. Voice calls, video chat, full keyboard, GPS & much more. Developed by Montreal-based Neptune, the watch has raised $801,224 of its $100,000 goal on Kickstarter.

POLAR is the world’s first modular pen made from magnets. The Waterloo-based project has raised $817,164 on Kickstarter.
