Research in Motion Ltd.'s shares popped Wednesday morning on speculative takeover talk, something there is bound to be more of in the future.

But while the chatter is to be expected, the fact that Amazon is one of the companies that took a look at RIM may catch some people off guard. Do some analysis, however, and it might actually make sense.

That's the message from Chris Umiastowski, who left TD Securities earlier this year, but still runs a blog where he posts some of this thoughts.

Before the takeover chat even surfaced, he highlighted some key points: Amazon is already expected to release a smartphone, and RIM could offer much more to BlackBerry users through Amazon's e-commerce platform.
