Sprott Asset Management is adding a third portfolio manager to its flow-through products team.

Jason Mayer joins Sprott from Middlefield Capital Corp., and already has the right background in growing resource companies and limited partnerships. He was lead portfolio manager on several Middlefield investment funds.

Mr. Mayer will also have some responsibility for Sprott Resource Class, an tax-advantaged mutual fund associated with the flow-through products. He will co-manage it with Paul Wong.

Flow-through shares allow investors to take on exploration expenses to help finance resource companies in Canada. Investors can then deduct these expenses against their own income. This can be a risky investment, though, so Sprott operates a flow-through limited partnerships that aim to reduce some of that risk through professional management and diversification.

Sprott's flow-through team also includes small/mid cap specialist Allan Jacobs and energy specialist Eric Nuttall. The third position was previously filled by precious metals specialist, Jamie Horvat.
