WestJet signs code-share deal with British AirwaysChris Bolin/The Globe and Mail

WestJet Airlines Ltd. has strengthened its ties with British Airways PLC with a new code-sharing agreement.

Connecting WestJet flights through various major Canadian cities will now carry a BA designation on the flight number, enabling WestJet flights to be booked through the British carrier.

This comes as WestJet has implemented closer ties to other carriers, too, announcing code-sharing agreements with seven other airlines since September last year, WestJet said Monday. Most of these agreements have been with U.S. and Asian carriers, although WestJet does have a code-sharing link with one other European carrier, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

WestJet has had a looser, interlining arrangement for connecting flights with BA since October, 2010, and it has interlining ties to 20 other airlines. Similarly, Air Canada lists 29 other airlines with which it has code-sharing or interlining agreements.
