The Toronto Blue Jays are considering Diamondbacks' third-base coach Matt Williams as a candidate to become the team's next manager according to multiple reports.

Fox Sports and TSN both say the Jays have been given permission to interview Williams as a replacement for John Farrell, who was hired away to manage the Boston Red Sox on October 20.

Over two seasons in Toronto, Farrell managed the Blue Jays to a 154-170 record as the team missed the MLB postseason for their 19th consecutive season.

Williams, nicknamed 'Matt The Bat', was a five-time All-Star and won a World Series ring with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001.

He  had a .268 career batting average spanning 17 seasons in the majors and also played with the San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Indians.

L.A. Dodgers third-base coach Tim Wallach, who had a standout career with the Montreal Expos as a third baseman, and former Blue Jay designated hitter Paul Molitor, who has coaching experience with the Minnesota Twins, are also rumoured to be candidates for the job.
