Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons will serve as a coach on American League manager Jim Leyland's staff at next month's All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York.

Leyland invited Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura for the other AL coach position. National League manager Bruce Bochy named Mets manager Terry Collins and Washington Nationals skipper Davey Johnson as his coaches.

Each coach has ties to the Mets. Johnson managed the Mets from 1984-90, Ventura was an all-star third baseman for the team in 1999 and Gibbons played 18 games for the team in 1984 and 1986 as a catcher.

Gibbons was also a coach and minor-league manager in the Mets' system from 1991-01. He also worked as an all-star coach for AL manager Ozzie Guillen at the 2006 all-star game in Pittsburgh.

The 84th edition of the mid-season showcase will be played July 16.
